Episodes 8-10

Shannon and Amanda continue their run through General Hospital: Night Shift season two. If you haven't listened to the episodes covering one through seven, you may want to start there. This batch covers episodes eight through ten.

Episode eight, "Pay It Forward," aired September 9, 2008, and opens with the fallout from a patient's decision to sell his own organs. Ryan, who was born with four kidneys, can't legally sell the extras, so he starts auctioning them off online for charity instead, watching the bids climb in real time. The stunt draws enough attention that FBI agent Jagger Cates shows up at General Hospital with a team to investigate organ trafficking, only to find out it's a single patient rather than a ring. Jagger sticks around to shadow Patrick Drake anyway, adding more strain to a hospital staff already answering to the real-world watchdog group Organs Watch. Ryan gives a kidney to a man pleading on behalf of an old teacher, kisses Claire right before he goes into surgery, and dies from a cardiac complication on the table.

Claire spends the rest of the episode grieving someone she barely knew, ends up at the bar alone, and that night crosses a line with Leo Julian. Robert Scorpio has a rough stretch of his own in this episode, falling on the bathroom floor after trying to brush his teeth without help and later refusing to let Kyle draw his blood, getting worked up enough that he tries to start a fight. Toussaint steps in and takes the hit instead, then tells Robin that what her father needs right now isn't a doctor, it's his daughter. Robin sits with Robert afterward, and he agrees to move in with her.

Episode nine, "About a Dad," aired September 16, 2008, and shifts focus to Jagger's son, Stone, who collapses at the hotel while getting ready for bed and is rushed to General Hospital. Doctors suspect a seizure tied to his autism, and Jagger and Robin wait on test results while the insurance company denies the claim as not medically necessary. Dr. Saira Batra launches a breast milk donation program at the hospital with Kyle running point, including a mother donating in memory of the baby she lost.

Robert gets a birthday celebration in this episode too, complete with two party hats, a party blower, and swearing Stone in as an honorary FBI agent. He and Jagger also have a real conversation about raising a child with a lifelong diagnosis. Robin loans Jagger money to help cover Stone's treatment, and Patrick isn't happy about it, pointing out everything else Robin already has on her plate.

Episode ten, "Brothers & Sisters," aired September 23, 2008, and brings Leo and Kyle's mother, Patricia, into Port Charles. A dinner meant to bring the family together instead exposes how differently she's treated her two sons over the years. Claire, already on edge, gets upset partway through dinner and leaves the table.

Kyle follows her to check on her, and that's when she tells him privately that she slept with Leo. Kyle walks back into the restaurant and punches his brother in the face without explaining why, leaving Patricia and everyone else at the table confused about what just happened. Robert and Robin also have a longer talk this episode about how his history with Anna shaped the way she approaches relationships, and a new patient, Eric, needs a liver transplant from a sister he hasn't spoken to in years.

Shannon and Amanda go scene by scene through all three episodes, including a full breakdown of the Robert and Robin conversation and different takes on where Patricia was really coming from.
