Alexis Davis Part 2
Updated: Oct 24
1998 - 1999
Alexis Davis started 1998 with two offers. Ned Ashton wanted her as chief counsel at ELQ to replace Justus Ward, and he said he would take her to lunch every day until she said yes. Helena Cassadine had Alexis brought to her blindfolded and laid out a plan to strip Stefan Cassadine of power and put it back in her own hands and Nikolas’s. Alexis suggested the family try working together as a unit. Helena wasn’t interested. Alexis knew what refusing would cost her, so she went along.

Helena’s Errands
Helena’s first assignment was Katherine Bell. Alexis met Katherine at the docks, told her Helena had kidnapped her and threatened her life, and offered a trade. A doctor with an eight month waiting list had agreed to see Nikolas, and in return Alexis wanted Nikolas to speak to Helena for her. Katherine refused to lie to Stefan. When Alexis reported back, Helena reminded her that her life depended on it.
The errands kept coming. Alexis handed Katherine a package from Helena, walked away when Katherine said she wanted nothing to do with her, and watched from a distance as Katherine came back for it. Next, Helena wanted Katherine to buy a replica of a stone bench from the Greek island for Wyndemere. When Alexis said it would take time, Helena brought up the death of Alexis’s mother. Alexis told Katherine it was the anniversary of Stefan’s baptism, that she’d had a bench made for him, and that she couldn’t give it to him herself. Katherine took the bench maker’s information. Alexis told Helena she wasn’t happy about tricking her. Helena told her she didn’t need to know how far this would go, and that she didn’t have the stomach for it anyway.
On her way home from ELQ Jakarta, Helena had Alexis stop in Greece to pick up a trunk. Lucky Spencer, it turned out, was working for Helena, and he would be the one collecting it.
Ned and ELQ
Alexis took Ned’s job on one condition: they stay out of each other’s personal business. She promised to resign if a conflict of interest ever came up. Ned showed up for their “annual” Valentine’s date with flowers, candy, and a little device that played the sounds of places around the world. When he asked if they were lovers, she said not yet, and then kissed him.
In front of the Quartermaines, Ned accused Alexis of planning to steal ELQ Jakarta back for Stefan and called her Cassadine through and through. To spite him, AJ Quartermaine got the board to name Alexis head legal counsel. Ned protested loudly. Then he celebrated with her in private.
Tony Jones
Helena’s next order was to get Tony Jones freed. Alexis asked why it mattered. Helena asked whether she’d like to keep breathing. Alexis said this would be her last miracle.
She dropped Tony’s insanity plea, steered him toward custodial interference, and put Jason Morgan on the stand to argue he wasn’t fit to raise Carly’s son. Dara Jensen, working off a tip from Justus, made Jason look like a loving father. Helena then gave Alexis a file Lucky had stolen from Dara’s office. Alexis told Luke Spencer she wouldn’t use it. She took it to Dara anyway, and in court, Dara agreed to community service. Then Carly grabbed Taggert’s gun and fired at Tony.
At the Grill, Alexis told Ned who she really was and why she took Tony’s case. Ned said that even if all of it was true, she would still lie to him and do his enemies’ bidding if pushed far enough. At the next board meeting, he fired her.
A Plan With Luke
Back at her hotel, Helena played Alexis’s mother’s music and announced another job. Alexis said no. Helena called her a mark on the Cassadine gene pool and swore to kill her, and Alexis gave in. Then Luke showed her the fake photos of Laura that Helena had given Lucky. Alexis asked Luke to help her kill Helena.
They settled on Stefan’s engagement party at Wyndemere. Luke would loosen the parapet railing, and Alexis would get Helena out onto it. Her one request was that Helena know Alexis was responsible right before she died. At the party, Helena wouldn’t follow her anywhere. Katherine went over the parapet instead, during an argument with Stefan.
Defending Stefan
Mac Scorpio arrested Stefan for Katherine’s murder after a dagger turned up in his drawer. Luke pointed out that with Helena gone and Stefan in prison, nothing stood between Alexis and control of the Cassadines. Alexis took Stefan’s case. When he asked why she was so sure he was innocent, she said she “just knows.”
Luke’s idea was to pin the whole thing on Helena with a forged will carrying her fingerprints. Alexis swapped Stefan’s copy herself while he and Nikolas were changing clothes. Stefan’s trial included Helena on the stand, a surprise witness for the prosecution, and a witness for the defense nobody in the courtroom saw coming.
The Key to the Kingdom
At Christmas, Luke stopped by with “Season’s greetings, hotlips” and handed Alexis an old-fashioned key with a tassel. He called it the key to the Cassadine kingdom and told her Nikolas wasn’t the heir at all. In 1999, Alexis confronted Stefan, partnered with Jasper Jacks, froze the family accounts, and tore up the Cassadine donation check at GH in front of everyone. She told Stefan, “May the best Cassadine win!”
The search for proof took Alexis and Jax to Athens, Geneva, and a helicopter headed for Cairo that went down in the Sahara. Jax insisted “a Jax is never stranded.” Alexis wasn’t so sure.
Las Vegas
Chloe Morgan’s uncle left a will requiring her to be happily married within a month or lose her company. The plan was for Chloe to marry Ned. Then her Aunt Gertrude showed up at the Las Vegas chapel, and Jax announced on the spot that he was the one getting married, to Alexis.
